2012 Basket Brigade a Success

From the Caesar Rodney Rotary Club:

The Caesar Rodney Rotary Club would like to take this opportunity to thank you for collecting food this Thanksgiving holiday season for the Caesar Rodney Rotary Club Basket Brigade.

This year’s participation by the Troop was more important than ever as unfortunately the Basket Brigade of Delaware had to cease operations due to a lack of funding. This organization in the past had donated turkeys to our club for distribution to families of need within the Wilmington area. Rather than discontinuing the Basket Brigade, our club decided to continue forward and fund the purchase of the turkeys itself, so food donated by members, students, and Boy and Girl Scout organizations helped defray some of our normal costs.

As in the past, this year we packed 125 boxes of food on Saturday, November 17, and the next morning delivered these boxes plus a 12-15 pound turkey to these families, all of whom were extremely delighted to receive this extra food and expressed such with a handshake and a smile on their face. You can tell the Scouts who participated in this year’s effort that they helped make this possible.

Troop 2 to Help With Physical Fitness Experiment

Troop 2 has been asked for volunteers to participate in a science fair experiment over the next month. Participation is voluntary. A brief presentation will occur on August 2, with testing to begin Aug 9 and more testing to be done August 23.  The experiment is explained below.

“Through experimentation, we want to determine if there is correlation between BMI and recovery rate after exercise. We are testing adolescents from the ages of 12 to 21. We will be measuring height and weight of the participants in order to calculate their BMI. Participant’s resting blood pressure and heart rate will also be measured. After, participants will do jumping jacks for 90 seconds a cadence of 112 beats/second (not very fast!). After the exercise, blood pressure and heart rate will be measured a few times to determine the recovery rates and ratios. The entire duration of the experiment will only last about 10-15 minutes per participant.”

Testing will be done during the same time as Troop meetings with one boy being tested at a time.

If you would like to participate, please read the consent form thoroughly, print and fill in all requested blanks.  Please note:  the consent form MUST be signed by both the scout AND a parent, or the scout will not be allowed to participate. Download the Physical Fitness Test Consent Form
